You've Got To Own Your Life

Own Your LifeWe were standing outside the Indigo bookstore down at Bay and Bloor in Toronto after sharing some great conversation and chai.
She was telling me about her past and some of the really tough challenges she’s been through.
And you could see something in her eyes…
But instead of playing the victim card she looked at me and said, “But you know, you’ve really got to own your life.”
So true. And so awesome.
It’s so easy to play the blame game. So easy to shift the responsibility onto someone else. It’s easy to point fingers
But you’re never going to get anywhere in your life until you take ownership of it.
That’s when you’ll seize your power. That’s when you’ll find your strength. That’s when your life will really start to change.
It takes courage to say, “I take ownership for this.”
It’s even harder to step back and say, “What did I do to create this situation?”
But true power comes when you own it. When you take responsibility for your life. That way you can step back and say, “What can I learn from this?”
Own your life. Take 100% responsibility for it and watch the magic happen.
That was the advice multimillionaire W. Clement Stone gave to Jack Canfield, “Taking one hundred percent responsibility means you acknowledge that you create everything that happens to you. It means you understand that you are the cause of all of your experience.”
Cause and effect. Very Buddhist. And even if you can’t understand the ‘why’ of a situation or outcome, you can own it. And when you own it, you take back your power. A realization slowly begins to take over. And that realization is, “If I caused it in some way, I can change it. I can do something about it.”

Stone went on to say to the young Jack, “If you want to be really successful, and I know you do, then you will have to give up blaming and complaining and take total responsibility for your life — that means all your results, both your successes and your failures. That is the prerequisite for creating a life of success.”
Just like my friend said, “You’ve got to own your life.”
