Awakening Personal Success

Eternity's Call

There’s an urge. A calling. An impulse that sleeps inside of you. Whispering. Nudging. Pushing. Constantly reminding you of something that takes titanium like courage to remember.
It knows you want to acknowledge it’s calls. It’s far wiser than you. It sees potential where you see failure. It knows only triumph while you brood over imagined defeat.
It bears witness to your flailings, tantrums and doubts.
But it still beckons you to see what it sees. To know what it knows. And to join its quest. A journey of pure potential. An adventure beyond anything that you can imagine.
We all know that it’s there.
And sometimes we listen. Sometimes our fears are sleeping but for a moment. And we hear the quiet call of our heart.
And in that brief moment we move forward. We take a tentative step toward a vision. A view of ourselves that sparks in us a desire – to be more, do more and see more.
It’s not easy. Fear wages a war against us. It knows that it must move fast. Because if we continue, if we but claim that new vision as our true self, it will have lost its power.
But if we break free from fears talon’s we will discover the miracle of beginning.
There’s magic in that moment when we step forward. When we move toward a greater aspect of ourselves. Unseen forces gather around us. Empower us. Fill our sails. Point us toward an un-chartered direction. And give our dreams flight.

“All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his or her way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.” ~ W.H. Murray

So listen. Eternity’s calling you. Is it time to answer? Is it time to begin?

Richard Branson's Keys To Success

Richard Branson's Keys To SuccessIn an interview for CNNMoney.com Richard Branson, the charismatic founder of Virgin Group and author of several books including one of my favorites, ‘Screw It Let’s Do It.’ had this to say about having a burning desire to follow your dreams,

Ideally, since 80 percent of your life is spent working, you should start your business around something that is a passion of yours. If you’re into kite-surfing and you want to become an entrepreneur, do it with kite-surfing.
Look, if you can indulge in your passion, life will be far more interesting than if you’re just working. You’ll work harder at it, and you’ll know more about it.
But first you must go out and educate yourself on whatever it is that you’ve decided to do – know more about kite-surfing than anyone else. That’s where the work comes in. But if you’re doing things you’re passionate about, that will come naturally.

Richard Branson’s motto is “Live life to the full.” and in his book “Losing My Virginity” when he was asked about maybe retiring and having a little fun now that he had sold Virgin Music to EMI he said,

Times had changed and we had 500 million pounds in the bank. But I didn’t believe in leaving it there. At this point I could of course have retired and concentrated my energies on learning how to paint water colors or how to beat my mum at golf.
People asked me: ‘Why don’t you have some fun now?’ but they were missing the point. As far as I was concerned, this was fun. Fun is at the core of the way I like to do business and it has been key to everything I’ve done from the outset. More than any other element, fun is the secret of Virgin’s success.

So if we follow Richard Branson’s lead, the question to constantly  ask ourselves would be, “Is this fun?” or “Am I having a good time doing this?”
And if you answered “No” then it may be time to try something different – maybe kite-surfing.
Have fun, make money, change the world.

Maybe You're Paused For A Reason

You ever have one of those moments where you just come to a screeching, fishtailing, full-on stop?
You’ve been working on a project, campaign or something that you’ve been pushing forward and putting your time into. And all of a sudden you’re just dead in the water.
And no matter what you do, you can’t move it forward.
Happened to me recently. And it drove me crazy. Then I did something that changed everything. I asked myself “Why?”
Why had this happened?
What was I missing?
Was there a better way to do what I was trying to do?
I looked at it from a bunch of different angles. I stepped back from the project and gave myself some breathing space.
And about 24 hours later the answer hit me like a ton of bricks. It was slick, easier to implement, would save a bunch of money and reduce the risk involved as well.
So the next time something you’re working seems to be going nowhere ask yourself “Why?”.
You may be surprised by the answers you find.
Remember to have fun, make money and change the world.

You've Got To Own Your Life

Own Your LifeWe were standing outside the Indigo bookstore down at Bay and Bloor in Toronto after sharing some great conversation and chai.
She was telling me about her past and some of the really tough challenges she’s been through.
And you could see something in her eyes…
Pain.
But instead of playing the victim card she looked at me and said, “But you know, you’ve really got to own your life.”
So true. And so awesome.
It’s so easy to play the blame game. So easy to shift the responsibility onto someone else. It’s easy to point fingers
But you’re never going to get anywhere in your life until you take ownership of it.

Jay-Z's Blessing For Your Life

Most people couldn’t imagine that Jay-Z, the self proclaimed King of hip-hop and former drug dealer would be bestowing blessings on people, but stranger things have happened.
And I’m guessing that a hard-knock life is bound to give you some keen insights on stuff.
So when I heard Jay-Z utter these words, “May the best of your today’s be the worst of your tomorrows.” I wasn’t totally surprised.
I figured a guy who’s running a multi-million dollar empire probably knows a thing or two about life.

You're Never Too Old To Kick Some Butt

Never Too OldNever Too Old

When it comes to bar room brawls I’ve always tried to be the peace keeper. Jumping into the mix and trying to break up whatever ruckus some of my drunken friends may have gotten themselves into.
I generally hang out with people who are looking to have a good time and dance until the sun comes up. So for the 20 years that I’ve been clubbing I’ve pretty much always gone home without a scratch on me.
But if I were to need some back-up I now know someone who’d would have my back.
Her name is Ena Mallet, she’s 77 years old and she’s an expert in martial arts.
She has amazingly become the first woman to ever reach the seventh dan in Spirit Combat International Jiu-Jitsu. An award so rare that her belt had to be made especially for her.
Spirit Combat is Jiu-Jitsu based form of self-defense. It incorporates other fighting style like boxing, judo and karate.
She started out in 1979 learning Karate mainly to keep fit. In 1987 she began to teach Spirit Combat.
She had this to say about her age and participating in such a dangerous activity, “I love teaching it and I certainly have no plans to give it up. I don’t see why I should put my feet up.”
This type of attitude reminds me of a story I heard Wayne Dyer tell.

Don't Wait Twenty Years To Live Your Best Life

Creating Opportunity

Creating Opportunity“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain
Don’t look back at your life and think about what could have been. Get out there and create what can be now.
Life’s a beta test. Not a finished product.
A work in progress.
A dance between two worlds.
Internal insight and analysis. External expression and creation.
It’s never going to be finished. You’re never going to be finished.

Acceptance & Broken Bones

The Power of Acceptance

Acceptance
12 hours.
That’s how long we spent in the emergency room at Sick Kids hospital in Toronto.
My son Shea had broken his arm.
He’s doing good and is a little trooper living his life as if he’s not even wearing a cast.
He broke his arm by doing what he does best, being a kid. Jumping around and having fun on the bed.
The little guy taught me something that day as we saw countless doctors, nurses, and staff.
He taught me about the power of acceptance.

Personal Development | Pulverizing Perfection

Personal Development | Pulverizing PerfectionPerfection is the enemy.
Leonard Cohen, the famous songwriter sang, “Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
That light is light of your hopes, your dreams and the doorway by which new opportunities are given a chance to enter into your life.
Life isn’t perfect. Do yourself the favor and accept that truth now.
And what is perfect anyways?
Asking myself that question I was reminded of when my two children were born.
Perfection was my wife, exhausted, sweaty and ready to get some well deserved sleep.
Perfection was my kids covered in slime and goo and crying their faces off trying to make sense of the world they just entered into.
Perfection was me, a bubbling and delirious mess of emotions, overwhelmed, and crying with joy.
That’s true perfection.
It’s messy.
It’s unscripted.
And it’s happening in the everyday moments of your life.
Be inspirational!
